A Bit About...

...Tracey Currie.
Tracey's first yoga experience was to a video during a high school gym class!  Years later, she discovered the practise again at the right time in her life.  She has now practiced regularly for 15 years and has been teaching in the City of Toronto for over 10 years.   Tracey completed the inaugural 350 hour Teacher Training program with Kathryn Beet and Marla (Meenakshi) Joy at the Yoga Space in Toronto.  She has since gone on to complete studies with Hart Lazer, Darby, John Friend, Todd Norian and Anne Green, Janice Clarfield, Dharma Mittra, Mark Finch, Mark Whitwell, Aadil Palkhivala and his wife, Savitri (Mirra) to name a few.
Tracey is also a Teacher and senior Practitioner of Thai Yoga Massage.  These teachings, historically derived from the combination of yogic tradition and Buddhism, are a constant source of inspiration for Tracey.  Her approach and teaching style have been greatly influenced by one guiding principle of this work – the spirit of metta (unconditional loving-kindness or compassion).  As she has worked to cultivate this principle into her own life, it has also enabled her to guide, communicate and connect with many students over the years.

Tracey has been interviewed about pre/postnatal yoga for local print media and appeared with Breathe Yoga Studio on City TV's Breakfast Television.  Check out her an interview about Thai Yoga Massage posted in the Eye Weekly newspaper  www.eyeweekly.com/style/wellness/article/63378 or enjoy a series of Post Natal YogaStroller Fit class photos from Snap Bloor West http://snapd.at/ee76xg

A Bit About...

Picture
I am honoured to have held the position of Chair for the 2011 Yogathon for Schizophrenia!  I lined up an amazing group of senior yoga teachers from the Toronto area for this fun-filled day!

The Yogathon for Schizophrenia benefits the Peace of Minds youth engagement initiative which helps youth and youth workers identify the signs and symptoms of psychosis, understand the importance of getting help early and, encourages them to fight the stigma associated with schizophrenia by speaking out against myths related to the illness.

This awesome event took place on Saturday, March 5th  2011 in Toronto at the historic Berkeley Church at the corner of Berkeley and Queen Streets.  To all those who participated in this awesome day of yoga - THANK YOU!!!  Congratulations to Team Breathe of Breathe Yoga Studio as they won the Top Team Fundraiser for their efforts in raising just over a whooping $8500.00.

If you'd like to be a part of this coming year's Yogathon - February 25th 2012, consider putting together a team and contributing your combined efforts to this amazing cause!

A Bit About...

...Mettā - From Wikipedia:

Mettā (Pāli: मेत्ता) or maitrī (Sanskrit) has been translated as "loving-kindness," "friendliness," "benevolence," "amity," "friendship," "good will," "kindness," "love," "sympathy," and "active interest in others." It is one of the ten pāramitās of the Theravāda school of Buddhism, and the first of the four Brahmavihāras. The mettā bhāvanā ("cultivation of mettā") is a popular form of meditation in Buddhism.

The object of mettā meditation is loving kindness (love without attachment). Traditionally, the practice begins with the meditator cultivating loving kindness towards themselves, then their loved ones, friends, teachers, strangers, enemies, and finally towards all sentient beings. Commonly, it can be used as a greeting or closing to a letter or note.
